Back to Basics Description:

Who is God the Father
-  Lesson One

There is a weird myth that has been floating around for a few centuries that really needs to be addressed. Basically, this myth says that as long as someone believes something – deeply, sincerely and honestly, then that belief becomes their truth, and no one has the right to dispute this fact, or inform them otherwise.

This means that I can have my truth and you can have your truth, and both of us can be correct. But we really know better than that, don’t we? This is like saying, “If you want to go to the Holy Lands simply go to the airport and get on any airplane you choose.”

With all the division in the world of Christendom wouldn’t it be wonderful if there were no such things a Protestant, Catholic, or Jews? I mean, would it be great if all we had to say to identify ourselves is say, “I am a Christian,” without out adding the disclaimer as to “what kind of Christian” we are?

Who is God the Son
- Lesson Two

With so much division in the world of Christendom, one has to wonder – why? Jesus prayed of the unity of his followers in John 17 and the writers of the New Testament reinforced his message. In an effort to recall the original message of God we are returning to the basics. If you have grown weary of all the materialism, hype, and hypocrisy being preached in the pulpits around the world; join us this Sunday as we explore the subject: “Who is God the Son?”

Bible study at 9:00 AM and Worship @ 10:00.

Philippians 2:6 - Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness...

Who is God the Spirit
- Lesson Three

If the Spirit stands behind us, throwing light over our shoulder on to Jesus who stands facing us. The Spirit's message to us is never, "Look at me; listen to me; come to me; get to know me", but always, "Look at him, and see his glory; listen to him and hear his word; go to him and have life; get to know him and taste his gift of joy and peace." The Spirit, we might say, is the matchmaker, the celestial marriage broker, whose role it is to bring us and Christ together and ensure that we stay together.

The Angels Among Us
- Lesson Four

There are a couple of curious passages in the Bible concerning the subject of “Angels.”

Hebrews 1:7 reads: “In speaking of the angels he says, ‘He makes his angels spirits, and his servants flames of fire.” Then, in verse 14 we find: “Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation? “And then there’s Paul the apostle. He wrote in Ephesians 6:12: “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”

So, what about angels? Are there both good and evil angels still active and working throughout the world today? Are they involved in our lives? Has our battleground changed? Has our enemy changed? Are the rules for us in the 21st century different that the rules they had in the 1st Century?

Join us at the New Iberia Church of Christ this Sunday morning (January 5, 2014) @ 10:00 A.M. as we study “The Angels Among Us.”

Satan and his work
- Lesson Five

We know little about the unseen realm, except for what we are told in Scripture. Knofel Station writes in his book Angels and demons: "Do not the appearances of Angels, Satan, and demons coming to earth as reported in the Bible affirm the reality of the unseen world? There is nothing in scientific research that disproves the reality of such an unseen existence. These unseen spirit beings are probably involved on earth far more than we think. And certainly more than we see. There is not a hint in the Bible that the earthly activity of such spiritual beings have or will cease. Join us this Sunday - January 12, as we continue the Series - Back to Basics." We will explore the Biblical teachings regarding Satan and his work.

The Essence of Faith
- Lesson Nine

Do you believe in Christ? Or do you “live by faith in the Son of God” (Gal. 2:20)? Did you know the two do not necessarily mean the same thing, though if you are in fact doing the latter you are also thereby doing the former. Belief and faith are not identical, and the difference can have eternal consequences. You might believe in the existence of God, and you might even believe that God became man in Jesus Christ, who died for our sins. But if you don’t live a life of faith in the Son of God, your belief will be of no avail at the judgment seat of God. Come and be with us this Sunday (2/9/2014 @ 10:00 AM) as we continue our Back to Basics Series and study – “The Essential Nature of Faith.”

God's Call to Repentence
- Lesson Ten

Like the Children of Israel many look for someone else to blame for their own sins. In their search for self-justification the Israelites they came up with a really cute and logical proverb that went like this: “The fathers may eat the sour grapes but the children’s teeth will be set on edge.” This meant that whatever the fathers of each successive generation did may not affect them, but it would surely affect their children and grandchildren. This was Israel’s way of blaming... their forefathers and even God, for the sin that they committed and the judgments they had to face.

In using this proverb they absolved themselves from the penalty for their own sin and place it upon the head of their ancestors. It is amazing what people will do to continue in their sinful lifestyles isn’t it? The word “Repent” has seemingly lost its meaning in our modern society – however, God has made this forgotten command a prerequisite for salvation. Join us at the New Iberia Church of Christ this Sunday (2-16-2014 @ 10:00 AM) as we continue our Back to Basics series with the message: “God’s Call to Repentance.”

Confession unto Salvation
- Lesson Eleven

Colon Brown in his Dictionary Of New Testament Theology says, "Homologous is a LEGAL WORD. It’s is used where a man agrees with the statement of another. And This AGREEING, expresses itself in a promise or commitment. It's a LEGAL CONTRACT. So, "Homologous" is a confession and it is equivalent to a LEGAL --- BINDING oath.

When applied to New Testament Christianity, confession means, To confess the Deity, The Lordship, The SOVEREIGNTY… of Christ.

It means to agree that ...the historical Jesus of Nazareth was indeed the only begotten son of God who came as the Savior of the world. So, Confession is agreeing that we’ll commit ourselves to his Lordship… His sovereignty.

Now folks, if such a confession is crucial to our salvation... We need some Biblical basis for what we believe. Join us this Sunday as we continue our Series "Back to Basics" and study the subject of Confession - In light of the Word.

Born of Water and the Spirit
- Lesson Twelve

Jesus told Nicodemus, " Not only is it possible for you to live in my kingdom, Its available to everybody; But - You must be born again to possess it.

It’s interesting to note that the Greek word translated AGAIN in our English Bibles literally means FROM ABOVE. In fact, out of the thirteen times that the Greek word AN-O-THEN is used in the New Testament, only here in verse three and seven is it translated AGAIN by our King James translators. So Jesus is saying, "I tell you the truth,. Unless a man is born FROM ABOVE. he cannot enter the Kingdom of God."

In other words, Entrance into this new life is by a new birth... Being Born from above.

Come join us this Sunday as we explore this new birth.
