A Study of the Book of Revelation
I Saw Heaven Open

Book of RevelationHello, I'm Ken Wright, the minister of the Church of Christ in New Iberia, Louisiana - Welcome to In Light of the Word.

If you are like most folks, you have a lot of trouble understanding the book of Revelation. There are so many different approaches to the interpretation of the book in this day and age that it's very easy to give up on understanding it and taking your chances.

These lessons explore various views held today: The Preterist, the historical, the Idealist and the Futurist. We will try to grasp where everyone is heading with their thought, and then we will look at what the Bible has to say.

So, go get your Bible and study along with me - in light of the word.

Just a “Run of the Mill” Church?
Due to a variety of web issues our web site has been offline for the past few months.  John, who volunteers his time as our in-house IT expert, has repaired and remodeled the web page and asked if I would be willing to write a message explaining who we are and what makes our congregation so special or different.  I said “Sure, I think I can do that.”  However, getting started proved to be a more daunting task than I imagined because we seem so ordinary, like what many might describe as just another “run of the mill” church.
The definition of “run of the mill” is something ordinary, average, or undistinguished in quality, character, or nature; not special or excellent.  That doesn’t seem like a good term to use to describe something you want to promote.  It almost sounds insulting, yet we seem so ordinary in so many ways.
We have an older church building that’s like so many others you might see.  It’s located in an older working class neighborhood…..nothing special about that. We have Bible classes for the various children’s grades as well as the usual adult class in the auditorium…… just like most congregations.  Our services are taped for a TV program, but lots of churches have TV programs.  We have mission outreaches in up-state New York, Mexico and a few other places.  Mission programs are fairly common in other congregations.
Our worship service typically begins with announcements, a short meet and greet time, a prayer, a few songs of a cappella singing, communion, the collection, a short sermon that will fit into the allotted time slot for the TV program – wait… that’s something special – short sermons…and a head start on the Baptists and Methodists who create those long lines at the restaurants.  But was that all that made us special?  More...

Getting to Know Jesus Series

Getting to Know Jesus SeriesThe beginning of Jesus and His story takes us beyond our world of time and space to the wonder and sweep of the ONE WHO INHABITS ETERNITY. Here, we are brought to the SOURCE of all things… to the origin of the universe. We must know that Jesus was not the beginning… He was IN THE BEGINNING

Application thought here — There is no way for us to plumb the depths of this truth, but it is true. And even though we can’t get our mind around it, we must accept this faith fact that our God is ONE… and He is eternally self-existent. This fact should impact our life by giving us Comfort… Confidence… and Faith in Him!

Back to Basics Series

Back to BasicsThere is a weird myth that has been floating around for a few centuries that really needs to be addressed. Basically, this myth says that as long as someone believes something – deeply, sincerely and honestly, then that belief becomes their truth, and no one has the right to dispute this fact, or inform them otherwise.

This means that I can have my truth and you can have your truth, and both of us can be correct. But we really know better than that, don’t we? This is like saying, “If you want to go to the Holy Lands simply go to the airport and get on any airplane you choose.”

With all the division in the world of Christendom wouldn’t it be wonderful if there were no such things a Protestant, Catholic, or Jews? I mean, would it be great if all we had to say to identify ourselves is say, “I am a Christian,” without out adding the disclaimer as to “what kind of Christian” we are?
